Importance of Reading

Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends.

Good morning! On the occasion of ‘Reading Inspiration Day’ 15th October, I am here to present my thoughts on the topic ‘Importance of Reading’. ‘A book is a dream that you hold in your hand’.

Today’s generation is more fond of the internet and mobile phones than reading, isn’t it? Today kindly allow me to make a case in favour of reading. Reading good books increases our knowledge. We learn more about the world. We keep up with happenings around the world. Our vocabulary evolves into a polished and skilful one which in turn boosts our confidence and makes us eloquent speakers. We can then stand firmly and clearly express our point of view during any discussion. Also, reading eradicates the feeling of loneliness. Instead of sitting idle and wasting precious time, we can keep ourselves occupied by reading a good book.

The world’s famous billionaires attribute their success to their reading habits. Great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Alva Edison and many more used to read books to gain inspiration, to gain power and to push themselves. Books mould our thoughts, our ideas, and our perspectives. We get the inspiration to set targets, achieve goals and reach the pinnacle of success.

Friends, I would suggest that each one of us should read, and read good books, since ‘A book has the power to change someone’s life’

Thank you for listening to me patiently.
